AVG anti virus

I have just downloaded AVG anti virus software onto XP and am unable to setup the file because I am getting an error message that says
FILE ERROR
Cannot find SHELL.DLL
then when you click OK in acknowledgement it goes to another error message that reads
Cannnot find file F:\Docume~1\admin\LOCALS~1\Temp\WZS23.tmp\setup.exe (or one of its componants). Check to ensure the path and filename are correct and that all requirted libraries are available. Can any body can tell me what I need to do to setup AVG in plain english, non geek speak. The software was downloaded onto C: not F: if that's any help!

 

The download might be corrupt. Download the file again & try again.

 

I recently had this problem! By going into c:\windows\system and copying the shell.dll file and pasting it into c:\windows\system32. I was able to fix this issue.

I think AVG antivirus cannot scan your XP box if your not logged in as a power user or user with administrator access. Bad thing for AVG.

Try running AVG as an Administrator and these error messages will be gone.
