    For the last two (2) days I have tried to download the update for AVG Free, and I keep getting the file is damaged and will be deleted, message. Has anyone else had this problem? :rolleyes:

    I had that prob for several days so I got rid of AVG and went to Avast.
    The differece in the 2 is amazing.
    No problems with updates at all and the auto update works. :)

    Greyhound try this
    Try this if you are having a problem downloading. Before I would go to the site and download it manually and place it in the Update folder then open AVG and it would install.

    This will give you three options for download sites.

    Navigate to your AVG install directory and rename your existing url.ini file to url.iniold.

    Copy the following and paste into notepad and save it as url.ini. Put this new file into your AVG install directory. You'll now have 3 options to select from with www.grisoft.com being the default.

    [SERVER_NAME]
    1=free.grisoft.cz
    2=ftp.grisoft.com
    3=www.grisoft.com

    [SERVER_URL]

    Thanks to dp on BBR.

    2=ftp.grisoft.com/pub/softw/60/fe/

    Actual URL=3

    Hey,, you might want to stop all non essential services, and go to here,,

    Trend Micro

    You might have a virus that goes by the name of Bagel something or other. It will infect the AVG executable, and make it not detect ANYTHING. You will think it is running, and bagel will infect every executable you run. The online scanner will clean all the executables, and you can delete the non-cleanable files. Worth a shot,, if you do have it,, it is a nasty little bugger.

    Some reading on the virus.

    I had the corrupted file message from AVG last night,, and found out I had gotten it. Took 3 online scans, cleaned about 750 infected files, and I deleted a few more. Took about 3 hours to get rid of it.

    I think AVGs site is buggered. I can`t even d/l the updates manually. Did the housecall scans, found nothing.

    Ok for me

    I d/l'ed the update from grisoft this am, but it was slow. Took three tries. The bagle thing concerns me so I'll check with TMicro tonight. Thanks for the link !

    I had done that a long time ago, thanks anyway. Finally just uninstalled it and installed avast.

    "Use Jujet's suggestion...it was on this board a week or two ago and works great, never had a problem getting any updates at all."

    Been there, done that. Worked fine for awhile, now it doesn`t. And like I said, you can`t even manually d/l from their own site.

    Ya, might end up doing that myself, as I am not really crazy about how this program works either, but it does work.

    Star, are you running the free version? That is what I was running. This was the first time I had a problem with it, when everyone was having a problem last week or so, I was fine. I even went to the site and tried to download the whole proggie again, but to no avail. Kept stopping. I am finally downloading it from MG, and it is going fine. I do like it better than avast! will most likely change back, the big problem is, there is no support for the freebie, so that is most likely why we are having a prob.

    I click on the d/l link at the site, and nothing happens at all. lol I just tried avast btw. I didn`tt like it. And whats worse, it planted files in my registry that won`t allow me to remove them. So, I ditched avast. I can`t btw install bin files. I can work with zips tho.
