Have a Vista laptop that I got cleaned up of multiple virus' and malware. Everything is running great again, installed Comodo Anti Virus (this laptop had NO antivirus installed) so all seems well now. Now this may not be a big deal or not, but when I ran Belarc Advisor, under antivirus software, it shows AVG Free 8.5 as well as Comodo. (see attached). There was no evidence of AVG being installed on this laptop. Not in programs, not in the remove program list. So I ran the AVG Removal tool and ran Belarc again but it is still showing AVG 8.5 installed. Anyone seen this before?

    Thanks in advance.

Are you the owner? Do you know for sure whether AVG was ever installed?

You might install CCleaner and run its registry scanner. Let us know whether it finds anything the appears to be related to AVG. Get CCleaner at http://majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_Slim_d4191.html

Ahhh, should have been more clearer on this one. :-D No, I am not the owner, was fixing this computer for someone else. The owner does not know if she had AVG on or not and said she did not know if someone else (like her boyfriend) had put it on or not. I know before I installed Comodo I checked over all programs to verify that in fact there was no Anti-Virus programs installed. Once I got this computer to the point that it would actually boot up (would not even boot in Safe Mode) I checked the programs prior to installing Comodo. (also ran MalwareBytes and SuperSpyware). I ran Advanced System Care and performed a registry clean as well. I might be wrong but doesn't Advanced System Care incorporate CCleaner? I have removed all but Comodo, but will try to install CCleaner to see if I can get this cleared up.

    Thanks,

    Ian

foogoo, thanks for the link. I take it from reading this, that if used, this will also remove the Comodo AV that I currently have fully installed? No big deal to re-install. Will install CCleaner and scan the registry then try this. :)

But just to make sure I am not doing the same thing I had done before, does Advance System Care incorporate CCleaner. For some reason, I thought it did.

    Thanks again,

    Ian

App remover will give you the chance to select what will be removed.
CCleaner is from Piriform, different from iobit, there are many tools like it and suites but CCleaner is solid. Never had an issue with it.

Perhaps it's a Windows' Repository problem? I found a link for XP on how to rebuild it and assume that it might also work for Vista. Prior to deleting the Repository folder I'd create a restore point and/or copy that folder or add "old" to it's name. http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-2687114.php

I never had the need to do the above and in addition don't have Vista. Id' try it because I've read similar instructions for the exact problem on this forum.

Additionally, one can look in Device Manager, view the Non-Plug and Play Devices and look it anything in there could be AVG. If sure of it's there, delete.

    Good luck!

    Oma,
Thanks for the tip. Will definitely take a look. This is my first Vista machine that I have worked on so information such as this only furthers my education of this OS. :)

    Thanks again,

    Ian
