The help I've found through google has not resolved. AVG message says "There are no active components". Have tried remove and reinstall, issue has been going on intermittenlty for months. Tried ensuring Admin/services/AVG watchdog is automatic.

This is indicative of some "other" malware trying to impair AVG functionality. Recommend you follow http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407 and don't try and shortcut as this will only exponentially grow, sort it NOW.
