    Hi.

Any help on this would be very much appreciated.

I'm running XP Pro. AVG (from windows) reports that there is a Trojan Horse called Dropper.eesbin.c that it can't remove.

I've tried running other free AV programs and they don't find it.

I created a DOS boot disk for XP and ran AVG from DOS ... it took ages but didn't find the trojan. However, everytime I run AVG from within XP there is the little blighter.

I've done numerous searches on the web and apart from a couple of German pages and a defunct link back to the forums here (link here) there is very little info.

I'm at a loss what to do and if this is really a problem?

    Cheers.

Did it quarantine it? I am not familiar with AVG but Norton says it can't remove something it just quarantines it. Check your quarantine, that would be why nothing else could detect it.

I use AVG, and there has been a couple times it found, but couldn't remove a nasty. I had to get the file's location, restart in safe mode with command prompt, and delete it from there. That has worked every time.

Trying to remove it through a command window doesn't seem to work.

Wookie brought up a good point, but when AVG quarantines something, it usually doesn't report it on subsequent scans.

Could it be in your system restore?
Try turning it off and scanning again, then turn it back on.
    Good luck.

I pick up Dropper from time to time. SpyBot S&D kills it right away. Download free in spyware section on main page. :) If it persists you may have to disable system restore, reboot, run SpyBot S&D, re-enable sys retore and reboot. You will lose all restore points if you disable system restore!!

Thanks for the replies everyone ... I'll try disabling system restore and see if I can remove it like that.

I had spybot installed until recently so maybe it would be wise to reinstall that.

I'll let you know how I get on.

    Cheers.
