avg in safe mode

just a short question on avg. ver 6.0 personal
run avg, spybot and ad-aware once a week, updating them before scans to make sure they are all up to date. several weeks ago I started scanning from safe mode (after reading MA's tutorial) However, avg is not available in safe mode. So after using safe mode I return to windows and scan with avg from there. Was MA's tutorial wrong about scanning with an anti virus program in safe mode or is this just a quirk with avg? Spybot and ad-aware are available for me in safe mode, but not avg.

Don't have any problems with spyware or viruses, and only had a virus detected once, along time ago, but was just curious.

 

sorry it's been so long to get back on. I can go to the avg icon in the task bar and start it up there or the start button and run it from there in my programs, but when in safe mode avg is not listed anywhere. Just had a thought. Should I have looked into windows Explorerer when in safe mode and tried to find it there? I'm still learning, thanks to you and this site.

you are right.............avg icons etc are in safe mode. When I click on the icon or go to start..programs and click avg, the hourglass appears briefly,as if the program is going to start, then it vanishes and nothing happens. I waited this time for a minute and got the error message: Driver(CORE)not found winerr=2 I had this same problem of the hourglass appearing when clicking on a shortcut for another program, and disapearing with the program not starting, quite awhile back, and I was able to uninstall that program and reinstall it and it has worked fine ever since. Could that be what I am missing, some driver file or whatever corrupted, and I need to reinstall the program? Avg has been working fine from regular startup, I hope. A big thank you for your interest.

MA after kicking self in behind, did a google search like I should have before, and found that I am probably not running the latest version of avg. So I will download a fresh version and install that to see if it clears the problem up. I download the latest updates for avg - spybot -and ad-aware each week before running them. Have learned just today that my version of ad-aware is not the latest, so I downloaded their newest version and replaced it. I was under the impression that when I connected to their websites for their latest updates that if there was a newer version that I would be notified. Oh well, I'll check the versions a little more closely from now on. Will let you know if this clears the problem up.
