Recently, I downloaded free ZoneAlarm Firewall onto a CD to install onto my Dads computer, (as he's on Dial Up connection and it would take ZoneAlarm hours to download onto his computer).

But now his free AVG Antivirus won't update anymore. He says that he gets a message, "saying to log on to www.grisoft.com and make sure update component AVGINET.EXE is allowed to access the internet."

How can I help him solve this problem?
    Thanks!
    :)

Double click the Zonealarm icon in the bottom right tray. In the window that opens, select Program Control from the left hand menu.

Scroll down till you see the AVG Antivirus software. If the symbols under the Access Internet colum are not green ticks, left click on the symbol showing then select the green tick. Close Zonealarm using the X in the top right hand corner as usual.

Let us know how that works....

Hi! I received an e-mail from my Dad,...........

    Checked out the checks.
    Here's what is now there:

Zone alarm client - green checks under Access and Server

Zone alarm updating client - green checks under Access
    but - red X X under Server.

zone alarm will not let me change these, says "do not change these setting" can cause crashes etc.

Still can't get any AVG updates.
    confused

He needs to be making the green checks against the AVG software, not the Zonealarm one. It's the AVG that needs permission to operate through the firewall automatically.

Thank you, I'll let him know. I think he just got a little confuzzled. I e-mailed him along with a picture of what my ZoneAlarm looks like. I appreciate your help very much!

    md2lgyk I can't follow the rules

There is no reason for the ZA client to have server rights. Mine doesn't. In fact, none of my programs do. I was able to easily change the ZA settings just like any other program. No messages or anything.
