I noticed that my AVG Test results, that it does every night while I sleep, scanned 131,755 objects on the 28th of Sept and 209,906 objects on the 30th of Sept. What do you think is up with that?

Sacnned files should only go up if you created more files, an unexpected jump in scanned files means that someone has downloaded more files to your system, that could be malware, or simply that you created more files yourself. If you had an auto update from MS your files would go up, suggest you acquire a disk checker (many available here at Major Geeks) and check your files manually, to see if there is something there that you did not intentionally install. Hope that helps Bev

    HI!
You should be aware that every time you use Windows all sorts of files are being created. .dat files, .bak files, log files, MRU files, temp files, temporary internet files....FILES for everything, everywhere!
Here is a great program to help cut down on the accumulated lot:
Drive Cleaners | CCleaner Slim (No Yahoo Toolbar, English) 1.33.382

Gets rid of all the 'junk'.

I've been using ccleaner, adaware, spybot s&d, and registry mechanic. I am very careful about using them regularily. I can't say as there is any reason why I should have that many new files etc in that time period. It's way to much. I haven't downloaded anything.

If you think malware is why you have 'extra' files, then go here and follow all the steps to find out for sure.

I don't think it's malware. I just would like to find out where to look for the extra files. You see, I recently restored my system and since then it has always showed there to be 130,000+ files. It is just in the recent couple of days or so it jumped past 200,000+. That's why I'm wondering.

    Thanks
    Bev

    Solved: AVG Results Question

I just found out that Adobe was updating and that's where the darn files came from. Also I had 4 files that wouldn't defrag and that's where they came from also. So, I just deactivated that part of Adobe and kept the reader and all is solved. Thanks for all your answers and I'll be back!
