I updated my AVG Anti-Virus to version 8. I did a full scan of my computer and the scan found no issues, but when I clicked "Warnings", it has a very long list of "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Active X Compatibility" files. I cannot find any information in the help section about what to do with these files. I e-mailed AVG site, but haven't heard from them. I thought maybe someone here can help me. Do I need to get rid of them,if so, how do I do this?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

    Hi

If you have either Spywareblaster or Spybot S&D installed these registry keys are linked to their blocked lists of known bad sites, and are nothing much to worry about.... some info from Grisoft on this

    http://www.grisoft.com/ww.faq.num-1067

Seems Grisoft need to update their application or from what scuttlebutt is that they wont fix this at all or yet as AVG 8 now comes with Anti-malware so is in competition with the other applications. Could try in the AVG advanced menu or the resulting windows with the listed files to add them to the exceptions/ignore listing ( dont use AVG 8 so you may have to read the help file on setting ignore/exceptions )

You may want to read comments I had on this here: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=159452

I don't agree with Grisoft. I feel their software needs to be rewritten to properly look for the actual infection not the CLSID.

If this issue does not get resolved, we may need to pull AVG from the recommed antivirus list since it will be quite annoying!!!

Hi Chas, just read your comments in that thread, I agree if they dont fix this as soon as its worth pulling from the recomended listings, especially as many do like Spywareblaster and SPybot S&D as backups to other security applications.

AVG 8 seems to have seen Grisoft go in a bad direction, like Lavasoft have IMHO.

    Thanks Guys,
Wish I had known all this before I purchased 8. I have used AVG Free for a long time and liked it, so after downloading 8, I went ahead and purchased it. I don't use spyblaster or S& D, but I do have Spyware Doctor, so I guess AVG don't like any type Spyware. Will live with it for awhile and try to decide what to do with it. Thanks again. I appreciate your help.

Guys, for what its worth, I ran a scan with Spyware Doctor and found no issues. I then emptied the virus vault in AVG and ran another full scan with AVG. It found no issues and the long list of "warnings" was still empty, so I'm hoping that I have solved the problem. Hope this helps someone solve their problem with AVG Anti Virus 8.
