AVG security

My subscription to F_SECURE is due in 13 days so for the last few weeks i have been looking for anything better i have tried Nod32 for the trial period i found it slowed the system a fair amount plus a few others.

i downloaded AVG security and installed i did not delete my F_SECURE but just unloaded it in case i did not like AVG,everything was good with updates and i let it scan the computer it found no problems so i went online and found my system was unbelievably slow so i assumed that the only thing was AVG i put on task manager and my CPU was at 100% and the only processes running were AVG and Sygate Firewall i switched off Sygate and no change so i deleted AVG put F_Secure back on and all was back to normal, the question is was the problem that i did not delete F_Secure or have you another idea.

As long as you don't run two anti-virus at the same time you shouldn't have any problems as you found out yourself. NOD32 is a great AV and I've never seen a speed issue with it. I've been using AVG free for near 5 years and haven't had any issues . Avast is also a good one. BTW, don't run two firewalls either.

 

thanks Augie it's probably my fault i did the same with NOD32 i just used the unload facility in F_SECURE it unloads but stays at the same level of security so i probably have to uload it completely i will try that and see if it gets better.http://bestsmileys.com/clueless/1.gif

 

Hey Augie i don't know what it is but i have got some programme in my system that interferes with NOD32 i completely uninstalled F_Secure re-ran my trial of NOD (i still have 12 days) it ran OK until i tried a post on MGs then all i got was "you have given a command the server cannot understand" i had 3 attempts to post always the same result.

i put Outlook Express up and could not receive mail it was being blocked i then went to EMOS in the AV unclicked everything so in theory all filters were off but still no incoming mail, i sent an E-Mail to a local friend and outgoing is OK.

i have used System Restore to put it back how it was and now its all perfect.

i thought maybe System Mechanic was to blame but that's still running.

i would welcome any advice or suggestions
