I uninstalled AVG Free on my XP SP3 system in preparation for installing AVG Pro, but a persistent problem has me stalled. When launching Outlook I get a pop up message telling me that Outlook has disabled AVG Exchange Extension because it cannot be loaded. I have manually deleted every instance of all AVG files throughout my system, and in the registry to no avail. Does anyone have a fix for this? I have rummaged through other forums on other tech sites and followed several suggestions, but they did not work. I am at a loss. I am running an IBM Lenovo desktop with Windows XP Sp3 installed.

    Hi

Try running the AVG Remover Tool and if it doesnt remove all reminents of AVG in normal mode, then boot into Safe Mode (F8 at boot) and try there.

Then run CCleaner and delete temps and then run ist Registry cleaner until nothing is listed.

Other tool that could work is Revo Uninstaller, but not in all cases as it doesnt always find the application in question.

Thanks, Halo. I followed your suggested remedies but to no avail. I still get this g-dammed popup each launch of Outlook.
This has to do with the Outlook Add-in feature. AVG as an add-in? I think I'll move on from AVG because of this irritating uninstall glitch. But, thanks for being there.

If Halo's suggestions did not work - could be your previous work on the registry.

Why not go ahead and install Avg Pro along with the email scanner as you opted for earlier. Should work out..

Or if you have the earlier installer saved, run and install as you did - and this time round follow Halo's suggestions.. to remove :wave

    Hi

Ok, just try this coming from a different angle, but as sikvik mentions your likely to be ok installing pro as its likely to have same add-on for Outlook.

But try this anyhow as it should disable that add-on, not knowing which Outlook version you have steps are for Outlook 2007 which I have, Click Tools > Trust Center > Add-ins and at the bottom is "Manage [Com add-ins] GO" click that, look down the list of add-ins and untick the AVG ones if their are any, then close and restart Outlook, has the message gone? if so go back to same Com add-ins menu and this time remove those AVG entries.

Here are options for Outlook 2003 http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HP052427821033.aspx?pid=CH063566601033

Then you should be fine to install AVG Pro as its likely to add those back during install.
