    Hello,

I'm having an issue with my avg anti virus. I'll try to get you as much information as i can right now but if you need any thing else just let me know and i'll do my best to get you the information. I'm running avg free edition version 7.5.516

The problem is that my update manager and my anti-virus definitions are not updating.

    Things Ive tried:
avg recommends to restart the computer so i did that then I tried to manually update and it still came up with unseccessful.

I tried deleting avg and re dling and re-installing. The same thing happened.

I'm actually wondering if a virus somehow slipped through and is messing with avg but I was reccommended to come and post one yoru forums here. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I'm getting this question from several of my clients. What's odd is it seems to be random. So far the solution has appeared to be to go into the AVG Control Center. Click on Update Manager. Click on Properties. Click the Update Immediately radio button. Check "Complete at next computer restart" for the "if restart is required" option.

I was finding that Update Manager was randomly choosing update on next computer restart but wasn't actually always doing it. Try doing that and rebooting see if that helps... Oh, and you might want to start by doing manual updates to force it up to date after making those changes and then see if it continues to do so on it's own in the future. let me know if it works or not because I expect more calls about this and I'm not sure if they are all the same problem or not.

Ok I tried that and hit apply then ok and it didn't do anythign so i right clicked the update manager and manually clicked on the update it still came back and told me unsuccessful

I kinda wish it would tell me why it was unsuccessful...It would give me a better idea on where to look for the solution

I have to head back to work now but i'll check back here later. Thanks for trying to help.

I just went there and tried to dl the files from that page you linked me. My computer saved it right to my desktop so I put them in my avg file.

After that I tried doing the update again, which didn't work.
I then tried restarting avg, which also didn't work.

Do I need to do somethign else with these files? they are .bin and I'm not seeing anything on the avg website that tells me what to do with the files.

Ok I decided I should try to turn my computer completely off and reboot and now it seams to be fixed. I'm not sure which one of the fixes actually fixed the problem but thank you to both of you.

If it happens again, drag the file you downloaded to the older with all the other updates, then REBOOT.

I used to go in and manually delete some of the older update files from my AVG folder because in the past AVG did not cleanup after itself.
I have no need to do that now because I use CCleaner and that will remove older files.

if avg is not working then go to avast!....its got auto updates and its less likely to crash
