AVG won't open

Before I could get my computer turned off, I had a power failure during a thunderstorm and it went off. When it came back on, Windows security says that AVG is turned of. I cannot get it to turn back on nor can I open the interface. This is AVG 8 purchased License in Feb. this year, 09. What can I do. I've even tried to open it from the program files but nothing happens. I have no Anti-Virus protection at this moment. This is a Dell computer running Windows Vista SP2.

 

I called AVG support but it will cost me $100 for them to do something! I have a Premium account purchased in February of this year (09). They referred me to someone else and they also want money to check this out and said something about corrupt files?!
Microsoft update installed Service Pack 2 before this happened. Windows Defender and Firewall are also on and I do not recall that before. I purchased this computer brand new from Dell in Oct 08 and have had no problems prior to this. Shoukld I uninstall AVG Internet Security Premium and then re-install it or any other suggestions? I have used you guys before and you have been superb in your help and knowlege.

Ok, I found out that the free support was closed except during working hours. The number I called was the off hour techs and they cost, believe me.
I took your advice instead. Uninstalled AVG. Got off line and used my AVG rescue CD, which would not work at all before I wrote to you, re-installed it. got back on line and downloaded all updates and it is fine. I have no idea what happened to cause the problem in the first place.
You guys helped me out once before with my old Dell computer so I remembered what to do. I can't thank you enough.
