    Hi

Moved your question to the software forum as thats the best one for this type of question, as for supporting, its listed for download like many other Antivirus apps (AVs), its on some of our guides like many other AVs,

However you will find that many of us do use AVG, but many use other AV apps, I dont use AVG, never liked it but thats a personal choice, I much prefer Avast for my desktops and Microsoft Security Essentials for my Laptop/netbooks.

The thing is AVG like many other applications will work for many users fine, it will also not work for others, but in some respects it may not be all AVGs fault it could be other applications on the PC causing the issues, to low powered PCs that cannot handle the modern AV apps, in part its a crap shoot as to what is good or not.

In the end we have to take a personal choice as to what to use, and in part what to host on the site and AVG is a viable Antivirus application for many.

If its not working great for you then I'm sorry for that but the best advice I would give is fully uninstall and then try something like Microsoft Security Essentials as its good on resources and score well in AV tests. Its a case of using what you like and what works and the AV is only part of PC security.

As David said, AV software and any other software is a personal choice. Effectiveness and compatibility depend on the user and the user's personal system and what they have installed. AV's in particular, since their very purpose is to be present throughout your system, can react poorly with software that installed.

Many here use AVG (I don't for the simple reason that I like Avira and I like NOD32, which are what I've used), and like it and have zero issues.

The purpose of Major Geeks downloads is to offer a wide assortment of options for everyone. The owners test all downloads and make sure they are all clean with no malware attached (you will not find that at the big download sites no matter what they claim). The simple fact that software is offered does not mean that it is necessarily 'recommended'. It means that people use it and download it for their use. It is your responsibility as the PC user to determine what works for you. :)

    Hi

Do uninstall AVG not only with add/remove but after that with the AVG removal tool HERE to get rid of all components or the next AV you install may have issues.

Personally on my desktop I use Avast but I do a custom install and disable all the components apart from the File System Shield, Web Shield, Network Shield, Script Shield and Behaviour Shield, the others I dont think are needed personally as in the main the File and Network shield will cover those areas.

But do test Microsoft Security Essentials out and let us know how you get on with your choices?

I dont however us Spybot as I think it causes issues with registry and other things, I much prefer adding Spywareblaster (not a AV but a block to many rogue activex and sites on the net, it doesn't run so doesn't use resources) I have as a backup Malwarebytes and Superantispyware to check for malware periodically, they are the free versions that run only on demand.

Try using Comodo, I've had a few problems with AVG myself, especially the newer versions.
