I re- downloaded AVG after removing it, but it doesn't show up on my desktop anywhere. I usually have it on my toolbar at the bottom, but it isn't there. When I checked my programs it said I have AVG. Just can't get the page to come up so I can click 'scan'.rolleyes

Go to Start>All programs and run it from there.

Right click on AVG in Programs and click "send to Desktop -create shortcut .

AVG should also automatically start with Windows and there should be an icon in the lower right of the taskbar/system tray that you should be able to right click on and select an action from.

The icon doesn't show up in the system tray even though AVG is listed in my programs list. When I click on AVG symbol on the lower bar, nothing ever comes on screen.rolleyes

If you start it from my post, it will bring the icon back after a re-boot.

Not sure what you mean by 'start it from my post'. Never had a computer class in my life !!;)

When I click on 'start' then 'all programs' avg is only on the list in a folder and when I click 'send to desktop' it still doesn't show up. Even after shutting computer down and restarting.

Open Security Center- does it show it is active?

    What OS do you have?

When I open security center it says AVG antivirus free edition reports that it's turned off...but...when I click 'Turn on now' it asks 'do you trust this' and I click it, nothing happens. Is there another free anti-virus that works just as good as AVG?

I'll be leaving in a few minutes.
Haven't heard back from you, but right now you have NO ANTI_VIRUS.

Yes. I downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials. Does it protect from everything AVG does?

It could be that there are too many programs that load at startup for them to all show up in the system tray at one time with the taskbar set at default height. I've got 23 program icons that all show in the system tray (I'm running XP Pro).

I expanded the task bar by right clicking on it and unchecking "Lock the Taskbar". I then dragged the top edge upward and then relocked the task bar.

Also, are you RIGHT clicking on that "symbol"? If you do, a "menu" should come up.

It is better than AVG IMHO - less of a footprint, runs smoothly.
Does the icon show on your taskbar now?

The icon is a green circle with a check mark inside the circle.

    Rhonda,

WOT is used in conjunction with the Anti-virus program.
It is just an extra layer of protection as is Superantispsyware and Malwarebytes.
