AVG6 update not working?

Is anybody else having trouble with AVG's update function? Hasn't worked for me for a couple of days now. I even downloaded & installed a fresh copy of AVG, which went fine, but the automatic update function can't connect to Grisoft. Manual update works, but is more work. Site problems, or a problem of mine?

Just did a fresh install a half hour ago. Evidently it's still not fixed over here yet. No biggie. Manual update is a reminder of the "good old days" when ALL updates were manual.

 

It doesnt take that much to manual update anyhow so i check it every day and not wait for auto update.

 

me too on the last few days but worked okay this morning on both 98se and me. I don't have it hooked up for auto anyway, I check it everyday. But the last week or so had to go onto their site and download it. Like I said okay this morning.

 

Wallah! Evidently they just got it fixed for here. Just connected successfully.

Just had to do mine manually for the second time in a row.

 

Manually for last 3 days, real slow also. I guess the MyDoom and everything else that has hit the fan the last few weeks is causing everybody to be safer.

Fix for update

Just found this: A fix for updating AVG.

Navigate to you AVG directory and rename your existing url.ini file to unl.iniold.

Copy the following and paste into notepad and save it as url.ini. Put this new file into your AVG directory. You'll now have 3 options to select from with www.grisoft.com being the default.

Virus slip

AVG did not update, and I had a weird email I thought from a very trusted friend. Opened virus (yes, admitting here I am an idiot) and then after update, signals me that there is now a virus. full scan found 519 infected files. took all last night to start cleaning up the mess. Stinger seems to find nothing further..... Maybe I need to rethink the free route.

 

I tried this and it puts the 3 sites in, but still can't update. I removed AVG and reinstalled it, but no luck.

 

Yeah it was sporder.dll that popped up a flag with a spyware scanner.


Endi found it. I think it turned out to have been a false alarm.

same here. I have version 6.0.595, and before the posted fix above, auto update would just sit there not doing anything. After the fix, it now cannot make a connection to the internet. Wtf`s up with that? lol Hope someone finds a fix.

 

Exact same deal here Shataan. I never installed Panda either.

 

Depending on the time of day for example.
I just finished downloading a AVG Update at 11.30 am central standard time this morning.
Download took about 2 minutes. yet it was a small download.

I changed this "fix" back to the old url.ini, and it just updated. Thx

 

Your choice, mine has bee working great ever since I changed to that fix.

 

different problem

I downloaded version 618 this morning manually (would not auto) but it would not install. Saved it to my desktop. What do I do with it now?? How do I get AVG to recognize and load the update? Did it just fine last time, but will not now.

 

Copy that file into c:\program files\grisoft\AVG\update and then start AVG and it will install it, Okay?

Tried exactly that and no joy......tried drag and drop into that folder also and no joy.......I'll try it again when I get home tonight.

 

Get rid of the download and start over again, downloading from AVG .

that was the plan. Hope they get that fixed soon.

 

What the devil??

Just got home from work and fired up the computer, navigated to the AVG update file and dropped the download off of my desktop into the folder. Fired up AVG and it installed. I must of tried that three times today without success....Just a windows thing I guess.. certainly couldn't be the operator! Thanks all.
