I would appreciate some suggestions on a new free anti-virus software. I keep getting reminded that my virus protection will stop being updated on 04/12/09 and it's getting to be about that time.:-o

You could carry on with AVG and their v8.5 (free)

Uninstall The 7.5 build using the removal tool from -
http://www.avg.com/download-tools

Re-boot and run the tool again and get AVG8.5 from- http://www.majorgeeks.com/AVG_AntiVirus_Free_Edition_d886.html

While installing choose the custom mode and uncheck Link scanner and toolbar.
