Avi Converter

I downloaded movies from torrent pond and cannot open them on my system.
The file extension is AVI?
Any recommendation or leads to free software to open these movies.

Install a good codec pack. I like the KLite Mega Codec Pack. It will install just about any codec you're ever likely to need, plus it also installs Media Player Classic as the default media player, and it also installs some handy tools like the Codec Tweak Tool (to detect/remove/repair broken codecs) and GSpot (to determine which codec a given file is encoded with). If you're wary of installing codecs for some reason, JustPlayin provided a link above to a great player that should handle things OK. Another good media player that does not require 'external' codecs is VLC Media Player.

(BTW- most of the movies on torrent sites have been illegally copied and pirated, and downloading these movies is a copyright violation in most countries and is punishable by a big fine and/or jail time)
