.avi file highlighting cause crashing of explorer.exe

On XP... Whenever I just click once on a .avi file (highlight it) in My Computer it crashes the explorer.exe and restarts it. It doesn't for an .mpeg file though. Why could this be happening? Do I need to do something with chkdsk at all? I did a scan and it said: Errors found. CHKDSK cannot continue in read-only mode. Someone told me I should chkdsk in safe mode. I shall do that as I await responses.

 

run chkdsk /f

It may ask you to reboot windows

 

I did that. Seems to have done nothing as I still have the problem.

No but I solved the problem. It was due to the installation of a program called FormatFactory. I uninstalled and problem solvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvved.

Pretty strange stuff.
