AVI into Zip/Rar

Hello, can anyone advise me if there is a way to backup avi video files into zip files or rar files as to shrink the size of them?

You don't. Leastwise, not without sacrificing quality and transcoding them. AVI files usually contain MPEG or Divx video (which is compressed) and MP3 audio (which is compressed). They're already as compressed as they're going to get.

If you need to be able to put a large file onto smaller media, you can create multi-part or split archives. Most archive programs can create them. If you do this, set the compression to "None" or "Least", since no amount of compression is going to appreciably reduce the overall size of the file.
