Avi, mpg. mpeg. files will not work!

Hey, i hope this question hasn't been brought up yet. Recently, almost all of my video files that are avi., mpg., mpeg, wmv. or basically windows media player files won't play. I've tried updating my codecs with both windows media player and DivX, but no luck. I'm very confused because I've never had this problem before and it's probably something really simple, but please help!

*Oh yeah, and the only program that will run these files is VLC player.

 

Check your associations when your install n new program like player VLC
only now this program can read those files to ckeck this open windows media
and open manualy a files click on files and open one of your mpeg or avi
and check if it work if not re-install windows media.....

 

ok will do...but these files won't work with any video editing software like Adobe Premiere, which i really need these files to work!

 

ok i tried re-installing, checked which programs are associated with the files types, and i keep getting this message:
Windows Media Player encountered an unknown error. This can occur when another program or operating system component encounters a problem but does not communicate the nature of the problem to Windows Media Player.

Error ID = 0xC00D11CD, Condition ID = 0x00000000

...any more suggestions?

 

What i found is you have to go back to windows media 9.

You can roll back WMP10 by uninstalling it through Add/Remove Programs, it will automatically revert back to your previous version 9 i suppose !!!!!

Alright, i rollback-ed my windows media player 10 to 9 now...and i still can't play my files. I went to the link Franklin sent me, but i really don't know which codecs i need.
