AVI problems with all forms of media players.

I have absolutely no problem running any form of media except avi format. sometimes it shows the movie with no sound, and sometimes it plays the sound with no video, I am at a loss. My pc doesn't seem to recognize the program that can run the aforementioned file type. I tried wmp, winamp, rp, and qt. I even downloaded some other player. all with the same results. HELP?

 

Do you have the DivX Codec installed?

Download and install DivX Codec 3.11 and see if problem is fixed.

while waiting for your reply, I got the alternate link to work, downloaded the codec and still have the same prob.

 

What exactly happens when try to play a .avi file?

 

either the sound works fine and I get no video, or I get video and no sound, or I get a pixelated white screen for video and no audio, OR I get a choppy, distorted audio and no video

 

Are you sure the file itself isnt corrupt?

 

I get avi files from everywhere trying to find one that works and I can't get a single one to act right.

Also, what version of WMP are you running?

Can't hurt anything if it already generates errors.
