avi videos will not play

    When I click on an avi linked video the sound plays but a messages appears briefly saying something about a codec error. I'm using wmp and the avi is enabled. Any suggestions?

    G.T. R.I.P February 4, 2007. You will be missed.

    The file is likely encoded with DivX or possibly XviD, both of which can use an .avi extension, but are NOT standard .avi movie files. (Confusing)

    (Just the free download, which is the codec & a small movie player, which you don't need to install if you don't want.)

    To fix any Codec related problems, try using Videotoolbox. It identifies the required codec and helps you downloading it.
