Avi

I need a program that will allow me to view avi movies, or aome sort of add on for either winamp or windows media player that will allow it. Thanks for any help.

 

Windows Media Player handles standard AVIs right out of the box, but some video files with an .avi extension aren't actually .avi movies. There are several unoficial compression programs used to make high quality movies that are much smaller than .mpg files that use the .avi extension (which is confusing). All you need is to download & install the proper codec for WMP to play them.

The most common is DivX. Grab the codec here:

Get just the free codec shown below their chart. You don't need the full programs.

Next most common is Xvid. Get that codec here:
http://www.xvid.org/

Install the codecs and Media Player should play them normally. I think there a a few other odd codecs out there, but these two cover most of the movies that aren't true .avi.
