I have Avira antivirus Icon showing in the lower right hand tool tray (sorry in advance if I botch up the names of computer things, I'm not literate in computerease like most folks:-o Anyway, Avira shows up on CCLEANER but NO VERSION is listed?

Yet, under 'ADD/Remove' Program it shows 85mb?

Also, it seems that on 1. 18. 2010 17:35 Avira was taken over by a virus or other problem on my computer? At one point I was cleaning out my Yahoo mail account and transferring them to a file in my 'Documents' and Avira 'Quarrantined' one email. It then asked if I wanted to 'empty the Quarrintied File'? I clicked on it and briefly the screen FLASHED then went back to 'normal'?:confused I suspected that some type of Worm, virus, or other problem loaded itself onto my computer at that point. TR/StartPage.KA.3 is what I believe was activated at the time? '7 zip access is denied' kept being invoked in a box on the screen every time I tried to delete/ remove the entry:confused

When I tried to delete it by using CCLEANER a yellow triangle with ! came up saying 'Cannot delete MSI installer':cry I'm ready to take the medicine whatever you folks prescribe:(

If you think you may be infected, please follow the instructions here:
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

Once you have the requested logs, start a thread in the malware forum and attach the logs to your posts.

Roger That! It should be noted that I was/am running Malwarebytes at the time, and thought that should've caught it?

I did read that first before posting; and executed as much of it as was possible before being stymied by the Java6 being unable to be Removed in 'Add/Remove' or through CCleaner. It may be beyond my comfort levels to keep trying stuff as I only have this one computer. If it goes up in smoke because of a keystroke I'm essential unable to get any help, so I'm playing it safe by asking questions first, then pushing buttons. This is a Dell Inspirion 1100 Laptop I'm using by the way if that matters.

Skip any of the instructions that you get stuck on or can not do. Just move on to the next part.

I did run down the list and perform as much as I felt safe doing. Now I'm at the point where I need to know where the 'list' appears so I can post it to let folks here see if they can view my computer's problem?

Thanks, I am running Malwarebytes as I type this full scan. I'll make it a document on Notepad, then add the other scan reports to it then post as you suggested.

I changed my Antivirus program from Avira to PC Tools SpyDoctor (because it's highly rated here) yesterday. I noticed that it too will not 'update itself':confused similiar to the problem I was having with Avira that caused me to mistrust that program. Anyone else have a VIRUS that controls the Anitvirus program?

That is a frequent symptom of malware infection. * You need to stop attempting to uninstall/install software which could lead to more being broken, and follow the advice already given.

PC Tools SpyDoctor is not an Anti-Virus program!

I run Avira AntiVir and it does indeed auto-update if you have it enabled.
Just one little nag screen about upgrading, but no biggie.

Could have fooled me (I guess it did:-o) because it claims to be on it's download from here:confused> Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus 2010 Advanced Protection Now $39.95 USD Found under Antivirus at bottom of every Forum page here, First one on list!

The more I try to work on this laptop the worse things seem to get:cry I have tried to follow the directions in numerous posts to no avail. Again, I challenge anyone who frequents this board and has been a contributor for at least a year, to meet up with me and attempt to clear this computer themselves. It seems to me it is not as simple as following the 'READ ME, DO THIS FIRST' post. I strongly believe my laptop has an issue/s that is causing me to be unable to completely go through the protocol being recommended here.

See my #1 post in this thread to note my reason for changing. I honestly believe my Avira Antivirus was corrupted/jacked/ whatever computer folks call it when a ROGUE program takes control of a software. Mine was on 'auto update' but then I noticed a 'date change' that 'advanced the date 4-5 months':eek

Take a look at the download you keep referring to.
That is for PC Tools Anti Virus Free Edition. Not with SpywareDoctor.
Spyware Doctor by itself does not have AntiVirus capability.
When you click where you mention, you are transferred to the PC Tools site, away from MG.

Here is the PC Tools free AntiVirus minus SpywareDoctor.
