There isn't big deferences between avast and avira , the most important thing is where you are searching via the internet , you are not secure if you aren't carefully enough what site you visit i think my friend !! :wave

both are as good but avast uses more resources than avira.

but it all goes down to personal preference.

Avast Free recently came out with a new version and it seems to create many headaches for quite a few users. See their forum: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=0es3oh7vp6uqd3241ldi3q17k5&board=2.0 As you can see their forum has been flooded since v 7 was released.

If choosing Avast, I'd wait a bit until all is ironed out. But then if you install it you may notice that you won't have any problems at all.

    AVAST free :)

As I run this on my desktop and been malware free for ever, but its a combination of knowing what should be on a PC and what I'm downloading or sites surfing.

    Download HERE

Worked great for me on many a PC..... BUT its a personal thing and I would advise testing then but one at a time as two will conflict and not give you a good overview, but the best AV is "you" in that be careful where you surf and what you download as no AV will protect you from torrents or dodgy downloads as, as soon as you click OK to download you have given permissions for said file to save and potentially run on your PC.

I find though that Avast has a better menu GUI and core AV than AVG, but I would also look at Microsoft Security Essentials as its better than most think.

Re: (avira or avast) conflict with Windows Defender

Do either one of these (Avast or Avira) conflict with Windows Defender? This thread http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=44525 says do not run any realtime anti-spyware with Avira? But I don;t see that Avira (free version) has any realtime anti spyware running. Can someone please clarify? Thanks, Ron

updated to the 2nd latest "7" release this morning, appears to be stable enough compared to the first version that seemed to resolve the bugs after the third VPS update, but this upgrade is running smooth for the time being.
i have used defender and avast side by side for years without any conflict.
