    Looking for opinions on this software. I use to use AVG. Had to have my cpu worked on and the tech installed Avira instead of AVG. Not sure if this is a coincidence, but I've had problems with my cpu since the install. Its a Dell Laptop 1521. When I'm done with the cpu I simply shut the laptop. Upon opening the cpu I am prompted with Your computer did not shut down properly. Click enter to start windows in normal mode. Would this have anything to do with the above mentioned anti virus?

    Generally a CPU change does not involve installing an antivirus program. You need to take it back to the person who worked on it and show them the problem.
    Explain what this means. The cpu is a chip on your motherboard. Surely you are not disassembling the laptop and fiddling with the chip.
    (CPU stands for Central Processing Unit) was this replaced with a different chip?

    By CPU, I'm assuming you mean computer :) (the CPU is only a small but vital part of the whole machine).

    If the tech uninstalled AVG for some reason (there have been plenty of reasons recently, AVG has got worse over the last year or so), you may need to run the AVG uninstaller to ensure that all of it has been completely removed.

    If you go to Control Panel > Power options, you can check the settings that your laptop uses when the lid is closed. If it's set to shut down, test that shutdown works correctly from the Start > Shutdown and, afterwards, by pressing the Power button once on the laptop.

    Avira is a very good free antivirus :)
