Awful internet performance

    Hi

I'm with BT over here in Blighty, and I'm experiencing terrible internet performance. I regularly Skype my Dad in NZ with no problems, but the last effort was fraught with issues so I went on pingtest and speedtest to see what gives.

As you can see from the links, I have a great (for this part of England) broadband speed, but my ping/packet loss/jitter are through the roof!

I'm not a techno wizard, so any help may have to be as if you're talking to a three year old!

Am I missing something obvious, or should I just ring up BT and go postal?

    Thanks for your help

Is that through a phone line? Does your phone have noise on it?

Assuming it's connecting via an ADSL modem/router, can you try to install RouterstatsLite to log your connection? This may enable you to pinpoint the problem.

If your router is connected directly to the BT Master socket and you have disconnected all extensions and telephones, do you still get this problem?

    Hi

It is through a phone line, and no noticeable noise on the line. If there was, what would that signify and how would I cure it or any internet performance?

    Cheers

Sorry, I forgot to add the link for RouterStatsLite in the previous post.

    Hi

Thanks for this. I have dowmloaded it and run it, but I cannot use it :(

Nowhere on my hub does it tell me the serial number of the router, so I don't know which to choose. I have tried all likely ones, but I get a 'cannot connect to router' message.

I don't really know what to try next I'm afraid.

    Cheers

If there was noise on the line then packets would be lost needing retransmission thereby slowing your connection and your telephone company would be responsible for that. Do ring up BT, tell them whatt's going on but don't go postal yet as you'll most likely get the lowest tier of help, they'll be just reading scripts.
