4 gigs should be MORE than enough, even with Vista. 3 would even be fine, but 8 is total overkill IMO.

I'm running 2 gigs OCZ platinum and it's good stuff. Havent messed around with OCing it yet but from what i read it should be decent. My old Crucial Ballistix kit was an overclocking BEAST.

I have two gigs of OCZ DDR-1200 and it pwns in speed..... but just basic daily stuff and I'm using 1.5GB.... I figure even my next rig will still use DDR2 so why not get the stuff now so I wont have to get it later

Vista and memory hog please explain? as I never seen any issues with the likes of Crysis a heavy graphical game.

If you mean that it used alot of ram then this is by design as the OS can use as much ram as it requires, then if your doing a task it will hand the ram back for you to use, its memory managment is much better than that of XP, which has a tendency to hand onto un-used DLLs.

IMO what is the point of having 2GB of ram and only wanting the OS to use say 512mb of this so you have 1.5GB free ( add 4GB of Ram and Vista will still use the same proportionate % amount of ran that it would have with 2GB ), this ram is unused and wasted, superfetch also helps speed up tasks as Vista uses your ram as a cache.

so what you are saying is that if I have 8GB of RAM, I'll only have like 1GB of RAM free?

I run 8 gig ddr2 800 and vista uses 25% so I have 6 gig free for use and more if needed(vista will release it as necessary) I game heavily myself and while 8 gigs is overkill per say I never have any memory issues :p also if you run vista 32 just get it up to 4 (max 32bit can use and it will show up as 3.5 or someother number like that) vista 64 can read it all though :)

No as I said its a % thing, Vista will use a % of ram wether this is 1GB > 8GB, as it will use what it thinks is needed, caching is a way forward to speed, again unused ram is wasted if not utilised and as I and ibbonkers both have mentioned Vista will release ram if you need it fo ra task your running, as it prioritises tasks..... many think this is hogging ram, it is not, its by design and IMO a welcome addition.

Did you read the tech docs?
