B$@@&% STEAM SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN

Does anyone know if u can download the latest steam updates, anywhere but steam. everytime I have came to play half-life 2 this week it goes to the automatic update. it gets to 30%, if it starts at all, and then returns to 0%. I left it on all day and night yesterday and still get past 30%. I am on broadband.

It really is starting to P@@ me off. I have lost a whole week. Cant even play the single player game. How can steam get away this. surely this is illegal where i cant even play the game i paid for.

Pls help

PS I have tried reinstalling HL2 no change, all my drivers for everything is up to date.

I played HL2 yesterday and got an update w/o a problem. I admit its a real PITA to go through that just to try and play off line.

Search the PlanetHalf-Life boards, I think there is a way to play off line w/o steam.

 

I don't use steam at all to play halflife 2, can't stand it.

 

unfortunatly i need to get on to steam, to enable the offline play. but i have missed to clan matches already and my team is getting a bit pissy im not there. so unfort i need to use steam

 

I use mcaffee firewall and set it to block steam,deny all access,if that doesnt work try reinstalling steam,block it from day1,as I have done and it will never download any updates,I havnt played it online though so I dont know how important those updates are

 

here's something you can try... search your steam folder for something called:

clientregistry.blob

try deleting that and then joining a server

don't worry it'll recreate that file for your when you try to connect to a server... i got my VAC2 update without any problems... could just be the content server you are connecting to

 

Hey man, I had that SAME EXACT since like 3 days ago (Went up to 35, and then back to zero), and that was because Verizon DSL was having problems with conection around my area.

I bet your problem is coming from your internet provider.........

AFAICT, the first 30% of Steam upgrades are connection and authentication procedures. You're probably not connecting to Steam at all.

 

Hi you're right. the servers from internode (now named interNOOB) and its in Australia. All Australians r having this prob from what I understand.

What u need to do is got to valve folder steam folder steamapps folder and delete the platforms.cfg file.

then

go back to the steam folder and delete the clientregistry.blob file and it should update without any probs.
