Hi! Sorry, I'm a very infant geek type. Anyway, I need help as I am afraid my computer is about to have a nervous break down. The letters on the screen are starting to waver. I want to defrag but It stays on Zero, even after all night. It says it was modified on Nov 8 '04. I contacted Microsoft and they gave me two spy ware programs (ad-aware and ?) Anyway, I came here looking for help. I down loaded the CPU tells you what you got and the defrag program and they did not open after a few minutes. Thank you for your help. Best regards, Jeanie

For starters i would get hold of Crapcleaner (available on this site) and run it to clean out all the gunk - then see if there is any improvement. Next click on Start Run type msconfig and click on the startup tab. Take the arrow out of any programs that are running in the background which you might be unaware of. Reboot. Try to defrag if not able to try to defrag after restarting in safe mode and that may work. Without any knowledge of your OS or computer thats the best i can offer to date. Except that Diskeeper lite is a better defragger than the one in MS
    Cheers

if the letters on the screen are starting to waver, then that is a display issue. Most likely a monitor issue. Start with trying a different monitor out. Maybe borrow one from a friend for a few minutes to see if it happens on that one as well. Make sure there are no speakers or fans near the monitor too.

    Dear Robert:
Thank you for your reply. I did it!!!!! I down loaded diskeeper lite and ran the program. I learned something about the start run browse too. Thank you, so much, for your help. Sincerely yours, Jeanie

Thank you for the suggestions concerning the monitor. I am still experimenting with trying to find where the increase refresher rate control might be. I couldn't find it under settings control display. I have to fool around with it somemore.

    Thank you, Best regards, Jeanie

go to control panel>display>maybe in the advanced area not sure..but when you find it it says refresh rate and it will have a list of refresh rates to choose from(numbers)choose a higher number than you are using now and that will stop your screen from flickering or whatever you call it=)
