    referring back to my previous post above from a couple of weeks ago. the cpu was the culprit. installed a new AMD XP3000+ and off it went. well, sort of. hdd had to be formatted and windows re-installed. took me a while to get back where i was. also installed a new 500w supply for good measure. thanks for the replies. thought you'd like to know how it turned out.
