Well, curiosity got the better of me and I finally had to give Linux a shot. Started dual booting but then went with a hard drive and just decided to make it my main OS for a while (to see how it would go).

To make a long story short I'm heading to XP but after formatting the drive and installing, Windows Update is having problems authenticating the computer. On a secondary note when attempting to install PC-Cillan the installer says that the system is not supported.

I'm guessing Linux did something that I'm missing.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Jackson

If you formatted Linux is not the problem.

Did you format or just reload XP over the top? Is your hard drive just one partition?

    Got it.

To answer the last post, I had started with a completly clean hard drive with no partitions.

I ended up using the recovery console and used the commands fixboot & fixmbr.

This seemed to allow the auto-update to kick in and, after letting it get through service pack 2, I can now run Microsoft Update.

Hope this helps others if they are having similar issues.

    Thanks,

    Jackson
