Back Up Laptop

Hi,

I think our laptop is going to crash - the fan is making a terrible noise. Can any either direct me to a past link on how to make a back up of my hard drive or give me step by step instructions on now to do this as we may need to purchase a new one ASAP. I have a Toshiba Satelite (it's very old). I can provide you with any other info if you tell me where I can find it. Thanks!

Copying the existing hard drive is easiest done with an external enclosure. Alternatively, using a docking station.

Either on the web, or, your local pc shop (may be a bit more expensive , at a shop)
Fans often need cleaning,but sometimes the bearings in them will wear,and become noisy.
It could also be the hard drive (usually a clicking noise.
Depending on your model, some are fans easy to get to, and very early ones can be a difficult.
If you list your model number (usually on underside of laptop) I can look it up for you.

Partition Wizard wi also copy without other software to a hard drive larger than original
Copying the whole haard drive is similar, except you just choose the old hard dive letter, and the new hard drive letter to copy everything.
