back up pc with disk image

i have a corrupted mis(windows installer). i want to create a disk image of everything on the pc & do a sys restore back to the first static point. 1st question: will the disk image save all the new programs/files/emails/browsers/etc.. that have been loaded on since the first static point? 2nd question: ff3 is my primary browser(backed up with mozbackup) how can i save all the settings in IE (my backup browser)? & if i have a successful image backup & restore to static point, would'nt the corrupted mis still be corrupted from the image restore? if thats the case, then how can i save all documents, emails from outlook exp./windstream acct emails, & other misc. files? if anyone has a better way or advice, i'm all ears.
