I have backed up before but that was quite awhile ago. My question is. My Win 98 has back-up under System Tools. My computer is a few years old. If I want/need to back-up my files is it recommended to back-up everything? Because this is a few years old it has many files on it. If I have to back-up. Do you simply keep loading disks into the A drive to back-up. Where this might require 100's of disks? I imagine it compresses as it saves but still we are talking quite a lot of info.
Is it better to select only certain things? And if so? What?
    Please help?

    Imho

I would not use the Back Up in win98. I have Win ME and did that the first time that I backed up and it took up a horrendous amount of space on my HDD. Do you have a CD burner or access to one? I now back up my personal files and registry to CD's. Be sides that, If you use the Win Backup in 98 it just stores it on a different partition. If your hard drive goes south you probably cannot retreive your stuff anyway. I do not recall that it offered an option to copy to floppy. Just my 2 cents worth. :)

    Back-up still

I started to copy to floppies but after 6 I knew it would require hundreds. No burner on this computer. Any ideas?

What about putting another hard drive in the computer as a slave, and backing up to the slave drive?

    it' been a long time

since I've done that. The bad part of that back up program is that it wants to back up your entire hard drive if memory serves me correctly. Were I you I would look through the programs here at Major Geeks and find one that allows you to select the files that YOU want to backup, save them to your hard drive and transfer them to floppies. If you had a friend that could hook up a burner temporarily that would be ideal. When I used that programin Windows it just took off and backed up over 4Gigs, which is a lot more than a hundred floppies. How much do you want to back-up?

Didn't see you there Mikey"" Capital idea!!

Yeah I lurk a lot. I usually come up with a semi-good idea every few months. ;)

That's what I've done for years. It's fast and easy, either for a full backup with Ghost or even just with Win98's backup routine (although a Ghost image or similar will get you back up & running a lot faster). Also great for storing downloaded program files, your personal stuff, etc. directly. Just drag & drop those.

NOW, today I go to Geeks and try the message boards. Now it doesn't even F'n know me and it's got the F'n balls to tell me I only have 5 chances to sign on or I have to wait 15 minutes.
What happens when you screw up? Do you people come over my house and give me my time back?"

Now that it is working, will you be apologizing and returning MY time?

Looks like he logged off. Do not help him until I get an apology. I will NOT be treated like that. A ancient old Compaq computer and theres a problem and its someone elses fault? There is no excuse for that sort of email. Regardless.

aLLiKZar It's not too late to back out!

I agree, his response was very immature and he does not need to be here with an attitude like that. It is not our fault his rig is not working, why he doesnt have cookies enabled...
