I have an old comp. with win98 (second version) & no cd-burner.
since i expect this old piece of junk to go to hardware-hell any day now , it's becoming more and more important to back-up, but all explanations nowadays are about backing-up with cd-s...

how do I back-up without one ? can the floppy-disk do that (they are so small...). I am a student, so I have lots of word, excel,pp documents & a lot of web-pages i need to back up...

    Help!

(and please don't suggest buying a new one... like most students I simply don't have the funds & am trying to get the most out of an 8 year-old comp...)

Hi... being a student can you not borrow a burner from a pal and burn what you now have to cd then follow what 'star17' suggests as this would be a cheaper option... ie. the cost of 1 cd as opposed to many floppies :)

I know students are fairly poor, but CD Burners are extremely cheap anymore.

    20$:

or, you can get a DVD burner for about 40$.

Ok, so if you can't scrape together 25$, do you have an ethernet card? If you have broadband internet (cable, DSL) you'll have one. You can network your computer with someone else's and send your data to their computer to back it up.

winace and winrar have the ability to zip files in a 1.4mb size so they will fit on a floppy, also your files in .zip format which will be more compatible with other operating systems

you might also consider finding an internet storage site like ripway.com that allows you to save files and back your stuff up onto their server

Here's another suggestion, beg steal or borrow a USB Data Transfer Cable couple that up to a friends computer that has a burner and transfer data accross..
