Background in Word

Every time I change the background in Word, it goes from "Print" view to "Web" view (under "Format"). I hate writing text in web view, especially as it is mean for print!

Is there any way to set background colour and stay in "Print" view?

 

Back grounds are displayed in web layout view only and aren't designed for printing.

Watermarks are intended for printed documents.

1. <LI class=LPROC>On the Format menu, point to Background, and then click Printed Watermark.
2. Do one of the following:
   • To change pictures, click Select Picture.
   • To change picture settings, select or clear the options you want under Picture watermark.
   • To change text, select a different built-in phrase or type in your own phrase.
   • To change text settings, select or clear the options you want under Text watermark.
   • If you inserted a watermark into the document header, and you did not use the Printed Watermark dialog box, then you should view the header, and then make the changes you want to the watermark text or graphic.

 

I tried the Format | Background at home and it worked fine: my page still is in print alyout view. So some bright spark in engineering has decided to save the trouble and ink (we have black & white printers anyway) by disabling background.

I will create a green A4 size "picture" of solid colour and see if I can use your suggestion as a workaround... But what a trouble just for a sake of bit of accessibility...

 

I managed to interrupt a support engineer in the corridor - that's the only way to contact them - and asked about my problem. She just said "Oh" when I told it certainly wasn't a malfunctioning computer, but that the computers in whole classroom behaved the same way. It wouldn't made any difference even if it was broken, sometimes it takes them a YEAR to fix a simple problem. Just makes me wonder what the college is paying these guys to do, that they are so busy. And keeping doors locked, with "secret" spy camera to see who wants support...
