Background Intelligent Transfer

Discussion in 'Software' started by Help-is-needed-quickly, Oct 11, 2006.

  1. Hi,
Yesterday I by mistake deleted the Background Intelligent Transfer (the part of Windows that makes you update from Microsoft's site).
Without it, it is simply impossible.

Where and how do I reinstall this application?
Im running Win XP pro, SP2.

At Microsofts page, it seems like only SP1 can update to the new BITS, withou problems.

    How do I countinue?

    Thanks in advance.

Can you describe what you have done? Are you certain that its been removed from your system, and that the service simply hasn't been stopped?

Here's what I would do before panicking:

    1. Right-click 'My Computer'
    2. Select 'Manage'
    3. On the 'Computer Management' window, expand 'Services And Applications'
    4. Select 'Services'
    5. On the right-hand side, look for 'Background Intelligent Transfer Service'

If you find this entry, then the service is still installed on your machine. To start it, right-click it, select properties, set the drop down under 'Startup Type' to 'Automatic', press the 'Start' button, and apply your settings. The service will now be running on your machine (and still running if you reboot), so you shouldn't have a problem getting updates.

  4. I have been going through the list of services but the BIT is not to be found.
I went to Microsoft and installed from my Dell (WinXP) cd the litle issue to be installed.
Now I can reach the list of updates, but the downloading/installing process isnt starting.
I also get a system tray icon (the yellow Microsoft update logo), that says downloading, but it never goes beyond 0%, and then within a certain amount of time - cloess.

Right now I have accepted to download from the webpage several updates, but it just frezes.

How do I solve this. It seems very delicate stuff.
    please help

  7. hello again,

I have done what you suggest, and I no longer have the BITS problem. That has been perfectly restored in its right place.
However now updating new Microsoft files I only succed with Windows Updates. The Office 2003 regognices them and downloads - but the installation process keeps saying failure to every one of them.

    Whats going on now???

    thanks

From my experience, Office updates usually fail due to a corrupt installation source. Please visit this link and check for updates. If they fail, the website will provide you with a link that says to download larger files that do not require a local installation source to install.

HAve paid the site a visit, and did a check for updates. It came up with the same seven that Windows update does. The downloading process goes fine, but the installation failed. The same went for the link with larger files. I simply cant download.

And its not because im running a cracked version of Windows nor Office. They are both licenced.

Any other ideas that I can try to make this work.

You may have to uninstall Office 2003 completely, and re-install, then apply the latest Office 2003 Service Pack and all pending Office 2003 updates.

  13. I followed your recom. and reinstalled Office 03, now everything is back to normal.

    Therefore: CASE CLOSED!!!!!

    thanks.
