Not exactly sure what your question is?...If you want an explaination of what services do what the n I'd suggeat BlackViper's site: http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm
-that'll tell you what is safe to turn off -and give you an idea of why the service is running -if there are services that are running that you don't see at black viper's I'd suggest a google search of the full service name with extention -that usually answers anny questions you might have.

go to start->control panel->system->advanced->performance settings-> advanced then adjust for best performance of programs or background services. I set to background services, and when I switch between large files, it does it seamlessly NO LAG. I can run doom 3 and farcry and alt tab back and forth between the two no problem. When I do this, however I do have to lower graphics settings.

Background services will be task running in the background, which is excellent for a server.

Your foreground tasks lose priority and in turn, performance.

So if I'm mainly running a game machine, it should be set to foreground right?
