Backing up a software dongle - Question?

I recently damaged my USB dongle for some very expensive software - typical way, sticking out the pc and my chair knocked it. It's still working but is very bent and it's probably a matter of a short time before it breaks off completely.

Under the license agreement it does say we are allowed to make a back up... but the company won't share how and won't offer it as a service. In addition, if I want a new one they won't even exchange - I have to buy a 2nd license. In other words, damage the dongle and the pricey license is dead with it.

So I am left with the choice of either buying a whole new license or trying to do the back up. I've looked online and read of people paying $30 to $40 for copies, but when I find companies that do it, they seem shady - either you have to call for a price or download free software, which makes me nervous.

Wondering then if anyone has experience with software dongle back up, and/or can make some recommendations?

Seems very strange that they wont tell you how to backup the dongle and have instruction on how to also as an FAQ to subscribers to their software, seems if they are wanting to get you to pay for a new one!

We have licence dongles in work and the method we have used is to use Imaging Software like Acronis True Image to accomplish this, use a USB pen thats similar in size (as in space) to the dongle.

Put the USB dongle in a USB port around the back of the PC if thats a more secure area for it to not get knocked.

Its a hit and miss way as the dongle you have may have more copy protection on.

I would be pushing them a bit more on the licence agreement that as you are mentioning says you can backup or copy the dongles licence adn why they wont support you.
