Running windows 2000 professional. When I try to move or copy a file from the C drive to an ext-HD nothing happen. If I open the file and then save it to the ext-HD that works. I what to backup all my files before I reinstall the OS.
Would anyone know of a free download that will copy files from one HD to anther?

    Thanks.

Well, you have one backup tool already on your computer. It's Windows Backup. I'm sure about the menu sequence to find it in Win 2000, but it's probably Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and then select Backup.

BTW, exactly how were you trying to copy files to the external HD? If you can save a file to the an ext-HD, you should be able to copy files to it, via Windows Explorer.

usafveteran, Windows backup doesn't exist before XP. There is no included backup tool in 2K.
