Can someone please suggest a program, if possible, to backup my DVD's. I have a niece staying with me who seems to take great pleasure out of playing with my collection. Yes I have tried DVD Shrink, however if will not copy all movies. P.S. (I do own the originals) I have tried to keep them away from her but all is failing and I can't afford to replace them and don't wish to buy a program without trying it first, all the programs I have tried have been crippled in some way or another so I don't know if they work. I will happily buy any program that will do this for me as it is costing an arm and a leg at the moment.

My system is 3.0ghx proccessor, 2 gb DDR2, 2x500gb HDD 8500 Video card.

Any help would be greatly received.:(:confused)

    Thanks les_n

You can buy DVDFab Platinum at http://www.dvdfab.com

Only $39 after the coupon code, depending upon which version you buy.

I suggest Handbrake (http://handbrake.fr/), a free OSS solution based off of ffmpeg. It will have issues doing Blu-Ray's but I've never had any issue with DVD's.

Or the free version of DVDfab HD might work for you.

The free version of DVDFab HD will only rip it to a DVD8 (Dual-layer) size and will only do the entire movie. Then you have to purchase Dual-layer disks(added cost). Finally, you need to use a suitable burning program to create the disk.

DVDFab Platinum does it all in one step, to either DVD5 or DVD8 and you have the option to do "Main Movie Only".

Ahh that's kind of lame that it only does the movie (but good for the "express" type of users).

Doesn't packing a dvd-9 into a dvd-5 cause compression thus loss of quality? Albeit one could set it to keep the movie quality at 100% and have the other items (menus/extras) at very low quality, but it all depends on what OP requires.

There are other more complicated ways of making backups of dvds (for free), but as an all-in-one solution and 1-click simplicity, DVDfab is a good choice.

DVDFab Platinum will do "Full Movie" or "Main Movie". It's your choice. Personally I would prefer to not see all the advertisements, trailers, special features etc. By clicking " full movie" you are going to sacrifice some quality on a DVD5 disk.

A DVD8/9 (Dual-layer) disk costs about $1.25 each whereas a DVD5 disk will only cost about 27 cents or less. I've seen no drop in quality by using a DVD5 disk and removing all the extra languages and other things not really needed, like subtitles and such using the "Main Movie" setting.

I also use DVD-R disks because they are more compatible with home DVD players than DVD+R disks are.
