Okay, I have the whole ZeroAccess thing going on, posted in the malware section, but in light of recent personal situations. Just want to reload my machine. My question is-- Could that ZeroAccess thing jump over to my external hard drive when I go to pull my files off?

Never really done this before so I'm curious.

    Thanks,

From following your thread in the malware forum, it appears that you eliminated ZeroAccess and one of its friends. ZA doesn't spread via removable media so you should be fine.
If you want to be absolutely certain that nothing could jump across, then use a bootable Linux distro like PuppyLinux http://puppylinux.org/main/Overview and Getting Started.htm
