    Hi
I back up my files up to a external harddrive but I am getting an error.
I am worried that all my stuff is not being saved but I dont know how to correct it. I'm using windows 10 .

    This is the message
'Backup encountered a problem while backing up Error:(The system cannot find the path specified. (0x80070003)'

Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

So it has been working normally but has started generating this error? We need more info -

Is your backup drive listed when you right click the start icon and click File Explorer > This PC? If so, can you see your most recent backups? Or, if this is an over-the-counter backup drive with pre-installed backup software, what is it? Maybe someone who uses a similar drive could help.

I cant remember getting this error before when I've backed up. I use a Seagate external drive which I plug into the PC to back up to and the drive is listed on This PC as the one to back up to. The back up does seem to be present on the external drive but I am concerned that large parts of my stuff have not saved due to this error. Thanks

Is it possible the drive is full?

If you don't know what has been backed up and what hasn't jannie then you also wouldn't know how to restore files from a backup if you needed to, which makes the question you have asked a bit irrelevant. Please learn how to use your backup program and how to examine your backups as to what should be there and what is actually there. Only then will we know whether there is or is not a problem. If you can establish the Seagate backup program name there is a better chance of getting the attention of someone else who uses it.

    Hi
Thanks to both of you for your replies. I will have a look at it in more detail as you suggest and also check whether the drive is full but I'm sure there is plenty of space on it.

    HI Jannie

AS well as the suggestions already posted that you are checking/trying also...

    What Windows version you using?
Are you just copy and pasting the files to the backup drive or using a specific software and app and if so what one.
That error can list to the Volume Shadow Copy service not running, so enter services (Win 7-8-10 type at start search services.msc and hit enter to open the services list) and look down the list and make sure Volume Shadow Copy service is Running, then try your backup again.

You have any new very large files being copied that were not before or long path and file names (260 characters, long paths are a combination of location of file, so it it going through multiple sub folders then if over 260 you may get a fail to copy)
