Backup for external hard drive

I also have a Dell 4600 I a 1TB external hard drive.
Would you recommend this for backing up data?
I would use it to backup multiple computers. The other computer is the kid's computer which is about to be replaced.

Yes that 1TB drive would be great for backup of multiple PCs, do you have any backup software already?

Which Windows version do you have on all the PCs? version dependent the likes of Vista Ultimate/Business and Windows 7 Ultimate have imaging backup included, the other versions like Home Premium and Pro have just folder backups.

I use Acronis True Image that allows both Image and folder backup, but you could also use Macrium Relect which is free to so similar.

Image or Clone backup is where the whole HDD is cloned som that in the even of a major issue and you need to restore, you can restore the whole HDD so thats its like you never had the issue at all with all your isntalled applications and files (dependednt on date of image file is to where you restore too)

Folder backup is just that a backup of specific folders like My Docs, any image and picture folders of important files you have etc

Both have Windows XP.
I have a Western Digital Backup drive but it isn't big enough for the Dell 4600 anymore.
It's WD 800BB external USB drive.

I can probably use it for just the older Dell (kid computer).
Use the Seagate 1TB for the Dell 4600.

I believe I'm using Retrospect software.
I prefer something easy because I tend to not want to be bothered wasting time on backup.
It sounds like I need to go with the Image or Clone backup that you talk about.

When we replace the Dell (kids) I will buy Windows 7.

We also will have 1 free Power Mac G5 in the house soon.

I see that the Seagate reviews don't look so good.
