robertbiferi I can't follow the rules

I always export my Address Book from Thunderbird to a folder on my Desktop and all my workd I have saved to a folder and I export my iE9 FAV. file and things like this.

I have an Intunale Hard Drive that I would like to have a program oce a week Auto Backup all of my folders with everything I just told you about.

And put it on my secondary hard drive.

I have win7. home premiume 64 Bit and I know it has an Auto Backup program.

Some people on the net if you read topics say not to use the one in win7 get a free program.

Why is win7. backup program to big is it a system recorce hog or what?

    What tsould I do??

Very commendable of you to do backups!

If you just want to backup some folders as you describe, the easiest would be to write a script and schedule it to run every 2 hours. You could write the output into a dated folder, so you have all past backups if something breaks. You could also have that script deleting backups older than one month.

Possibly Windows backup can do the same; I do not know, as I have never used Windows backup. Never heard anything bad about it, but I have used Acronis for many years, so I never had a need to use Windows backup.

P.S. don't forget to do a fully system backup from time to time!

You may find that a free sync program is just what you need. You set up a task to copy folder X to folder Y which you can just run manually or set to run to a schedule. You can have as many individual tasks as you want and, unless you need to change something you can forget all about file backup - it will just automatically look after itself.

I've been using SyncBack for years and recommend it, but there are many similar programs available.

If you use a program to do your Backps then why did you say to me to make a Script?

If I make a Script then what program is going to be doing the Backup?

I did that in the past on a corporate network; just daily backing up some selected folders. Very simple stuff; just copying folder contents to a file server. Creating backup folders with the name of today's date, then using the XCOPY command to copy selected files or entire folders to the backup location.

Now I just use Acronis for a complete backup, then create regular incremental backups.

Well I looked at win7. Backup program and Easy To Do program.

I thought since thay all Compress the Data to make one file out of it that I may be lossing Data or Information and it will make my work look bad if I ever had to go back and use a backup.

And I did a google search on making a Batch File just to copy folrders and Files as is to another Drive.

But I can not find any information on how to make this file. And when I do make it do I just dable click it to run it?

Robert, I posted about SyncBack but you don't seem to have looked at it. It is a very simple way around your problem.

Ok I just looked at SyncBack Free on YouTybe and it looks very good thanks.

But one thing before I go adding a Program to my system what does this do that win7. Backup program can not?

In the past I have tried Win 7's own backup to create a system image, but was disatisfied with it on quite a few counts, so reverted to what I have always used for system images - Acronis. As a result I didn't bother exploring file backups in it as I have always found SyncBack so easy and reliable. It doesn't hog your resources, and if you use its scheduler you won't even notice it's there most of the time. I keep Windows Backup turned off.
