backup on ipod is not accessible

Here's one for ya...

I backed up my HDD on to my ipod classic using Fdisk.

Now that I have a new PC, I am trying to recover the files. Prior to my buying the new machine, I was using IZarc to extract files from the backup as I needed them and everything was working correctly.

All of a sudden, the backup archive on my ipod went from being 38Gb to 3Gb, and extraction with IZarc goes through its paces, but results in absolutely nothing being extracted.

I have not added any significant files to the ipod since this happened, nor have I performed any sync or formatting.

I am hoping that my data is still on the ipod. I used a program called Recover My ipod and it shows over a thousand "lost files," with file sizes ranging from 520Mb on down. However, this software is specific to ipod recovery, so it recognizes the files only as Mp3's of unknown origin.

I have tried to use other data recovery software but they seem to be unable to access my ipod as a HDD.

These files are incredibly important to me and I am hoping that someone can help me recover them.

Your backup going from 38Gb to 3Gb is not a good sign. If you created the backup with FBackup, can you install it on the new computer and use it to recover your backup?

If not, You may be able to recover something using Minitools Power Data Recovery, free for home use. It is supposed to support Ipod but I am not sure if will support data files. Just remember to save the recovered files to your hard drive and not back to the Ipod.
