Backup Registry XP

Hi All,

Are there any freeware that safely backs up my registry? Any advice would be appreciated.

You betcha, It's right here at Major Geeks.
It's called Erunt 1.1j
I just used it yesterday before I started doing performance tweaks on my registry. I even did a test restore after I made changes.

It installed in: C:\Program Files\ERUNT
But the backup is in: C:\WINDOWS\erdnt

You need to watch were the file goes when you do a backup so you can locate it if you need it.

Thanks for info and I have downloaded the Erunt. Is the registry optimizer any use? If not, any suggestions?

I see that NTREGOPT comes with ERUNT. As the info about ERUNT says, "
Also included in this package is NTREGOPT; a program for optimizing the registry." I've used NTREGOPT and found it worth having.

 

I haven't used the optimizer in Erunt, I used it only for the purpose of making an entire registry backup before I started doing performance tweaks on it.

Now there are other registry apps that perform maintenance procedures such as invalid entries removal etc. You can find them here at M.G.'s in the registry tools.

Here they are sorted by "Popularity"

I use several different ones:
Lexun RegScrubXP
Wise Registry Cleaner
WT RegCleanerXP 1.20

I just downloaded "Glary Utilities" last night and seem to like it, it has several features in it. It is listed as an "all-in-one" utility. It has a built in registry cleaner.

As far as Optimization, I have used "Reg Compact" for defragmenting the registry hives.

It all comes down to which one you like and are comfortable with, hope that helps.

P.S.- Most all of these apps have a built in backup feature, be sure to use them if you feel uncertain about making repairs.
