Backup software for Windows XP

Dear Forum,

Could somebody kindly recommend a reliable backup software programme?

The laptop is running Windows XP SP3 and the backup medium is an external hard drive connected via a USB cable.

The C: drive on the laptop has around 39 GB of information and the D: drive has around 15 GB.

I am unsure whether there are two drives in the laptop. Or whether a section of the hard drive has been partitioned.

I am not very good with computers, and this newbie would really appreciate your help

Are you wanting to backup just your personal files/folders or to have a complete backup of your hard disks/partitions for disaster recovery? There isn't any single product that is best for both, though some claim to be

For a paid program I use and recommend Acronis True Image, but an excellent free one is Easeus ToDo

An external USB drive is the ideal place to store your backups. Do be sure to create the rescue CD whichever program you choose.
